Day 10 : Munich

After all the debacle with the trains I FINALLY made it to Munich. Thank God for the internet and iphones as I was able to quickly check Facebook to discover I'd missed Ryan at the train station and sent him a message that i'd just arrived and was headed to the hostel. Luckily it was easy to find the hostel and we made it there with no difficulty.

Once we were all cleansed up we headed downstairs to contact Ryan only to find that he was waiting for us in the lobby! Awesome! So off we headed for a personal tour around Munich. We walked all around the city and had the sights pointed out to us with a brief history lesson thrown in there for good measure.

This glockenspiel was definitely more impressive than the astrological clock in Prague. After our stroll around the city we stopped at the Hofbrauhause for a beer and some dinner which consisted of the largest schnitzel I have ever seen and some assorted bread/pretzels and cheese.

Now, no proper German experience would be complete without a bit of local beer… This is a Mass. While we were disappointed to find out that "boots" are not actually something that is real, Beerfest lied to all of us, there is this wonderful creation. 1 litre of beer.

After dinner we headed to a less touristy Bierhause and met up with some of Ryan's friends as well as some Quebecois from our hostel and tried a couple more local wheat beers. Since it was a long day of travelling we finished off the evening with something called a Rattler, which is 1/2 beer 1/2 lemonade, and QUITE refreshing. Probably the perfect drink for a hot summer afternoon BBQ.

Since it was pretty late by this point (as we only arrived at 6PM) our fearless leader trekked all the way home with us to ensure our safe return to our hostel, before catching the train and getting himself home. So much fun to catch up with old friends after 15 years.

UPDATE: We found out that Ryan missed the last train back to his residence and had to walk an hour and a half to get there! Record time though!
